Team Werk

JACK WERK (1944-2010) was President of Werk Thoroughbred Consultants, Inc., and Founding Publisher of the respected journal OWNER-BREEDER, the ground-breaking thoroughbred journal dedicated to pedigree analysis, theories and trends; and co-founder and partner with Roger Lyons in CompuSire, the popular pedigree software. During the 1970's, Jack owned and operated one of the largest real estate brokerages in the San Francisco Bay Area. A long-time racing enthusiast, he left the real estate business to pursue his interest in the study of Thoroughbred pedigree. That interest grew into what is now Werk Thoroughbred Consultants, what many people in racing regard as the most influential pedigree consulting company in North America. Jack was a frequent speaker at Thoroughbred conferences worldwide and was highly committed to the principle of service to the industry. Besides being a keen observer of pedigree trends and market conditions, Jack's success and that of WTC is largely attributable to his insistence upon fair business policies and practices that keep clients coming back. He also had an astute sense of the kinds of information products that are needed by Thoroughbred breeders and buyers, and, of course, his ability to bring those products to market post-haste was admired throughout the industry. His core principles and innovations continue to drive the company.

SID FERNANDO, an internationally prominent pedigree and racing authority, joined Werk Thoroughbred Consultants in 2010 as President and was handpicked by Jack Werk to lead the company into a future that includes the rapid globalization of breeding and racing. A graduate of prestigious Vassar College with a degree in Art History, Sid has written for leading bloodstock publications around the world for nearly 30 years, and his work has been translated into 12 languages worldwide. A former Bloodstock Editor and Columnist for Daily Racing Form, Sid's work also has appeared in Racing Post, Thoroughbred Times, Pacemaker, Turf Diario, North American Trainer, Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder, Owner-Breeder, etc. A close friend of the legendary Daily Racing Form Bloodstock Columnist Leon Rasmussen — author of several notable books and an influential advisor to several famed breeding establishments during his lifetime — Sid has been privy to breeding theories behind some of the greatest minds in the business. He also has been a private pedigree consultant to a select group of international breeders and owners for the last decade, and is well known for his integrity — and discretion — in business transactions. Sid is one of the most well-known racing bloggers and Tweeters in social media. He is the author of the widely read blog Sid Fernando + Observations and also posts regularly at Who's Hot, Who's Not, a blog that Jack Werk pioneered as an industry "must read."
