I ended my last blog post on Petionville (Seeking the Gold – Vana Turns, by Wavering Monarch) by noting his incredible nick with Seattle Slew-line mares (see below). Seeking the Gold’s other good stallion son in Kentucky is Hill ‘n’ Dale’s Mutakddim (Seeking the Gold – Oscillate, by Seattle Slew), another SW bred on this potent nick of Seeking the Gold/Seattle Slew.
By being out of a Seattle Slew mare himself, breeders may have stayed away from using Mutakddim with Seattle Slew-line mares, but Seattle Slew is far back enough in pedigrees that this probably shouldn’t be an issue. Our research has shown that there are to date 21 unrestricted SWs inbred to Seattle Slew within 4 generations. The most famous is also the most recent – Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed, has Seattle Slew 4×4! Of these 21, 7 are Graded/Group winners.
Mutakddim, who stands for $12,500, is a great racehorse sire, and every time you look on the general sire list he’s always around. He never gets a lot of headlines, but he’s capable of getting a top horse, as he did with G1 winner Lady Tak, who was out of a Northern Dancer-line mare. And Northern Dancer has been a key to Mutakddim’s success!
Mutakddim’s second dam is Dance Number, a daughter of Northern Dancer, so every time Mutakddim is bred to a Northern Dancer-line mare, the foals show inbreeding to the great Canadian-bred stallion.
Check this out: Mutakddim’s Italian champion Breath of Love (click here to view pedigree) was out of a Nureyev mare, his Uruguayan champion Major Leader (click here to view pedigree) was out of a Nijinsky-line mare, and his Argentinean G1 winner Symbolic (click here to view pedigree) was out of a Gate Dancer mare (Northern Dancer line)! All of these foals are inbred to Northern Dancer.
Well, if you think that’s pretty good for Mutakddim – sort of his Seattle Slew for Petionville! – there’s more to this story, and it’s pretty amazing, folks!
It’s all about Mutakddim’s double life!
If you look at his stats, you’ll see that he is the sire of 71 SW’s, including one G1 winner in North America (Lady Tak). BUT, did you know that he has sired and incredible 12 G1 winners in South America?
He is a dual-hemisphere stallion who stands the Southern Hemisphere season at the famous Haras La Quebrada in Argentina, and in Argentina he’s had his major success with Haras La Quebrada’s famous stallion Southern Halo.
Out of his 12 G1 winners there, 7 are out of Southern Halo mares! Now, Southern Halo himself is out of a Northern Dancer mare, so all these foals are inbred to Northern Dancer, too!
